Get to know your counselor

My name is Lindsey King. I am thrilled to be the School Counselor at Parsons Pre-K. My goal is to support students and families in order for them to have a successful school year. I am really excited to be a part of the Panda team and help provide a positive start to your child's education. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and received a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. I hold certifications in School Counseling (K-12), General Education (PK-6) and ESL (K-12). I have taught kindergarten and 1^st grade. I have served as a school counselor in Richardson ISD as well as on another Garland ISD campus. I look forward to working with the students, staff, and families of Parsons.

What can the counselor do for me?

As the Parsons Pre-K Counselor, I want to help you and your child have a positive early childhood experience. My role is an important part of the social and educational development of all students. Through classroom guidance, I help students to develop good character, make good choices and be safe. The guidance lessons are developmentally based and guided by the GISD early childhood curriculum. My focus is always on developing a warm, caring and accepting relationship with students and their families. Students who are having difficulties at home or school may be referred for assistance by parents or the classroom teacher. Please let me know if you have a concern or need assistance.
Counselors for each campus are certified by the state of Texas in School Counseling, have a Master’s Degree, and previous teaching experience. Each elementary school has a guidance counselor to help ensure that adequate support to help students to succeed and meet their goals is available.

Social Emotional Learning

During announcements we make it a goal to start each day with a personal connection. Students use visuals to become more proficient at expressing their emotions. The counselor provides a daily recorded SEL lesson for all students. Social emotional lessons help students develop self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills necessary for life.

Guided Lessons

School Counselor can help students by:

Providing responsive services for crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and specific concerns through small group or individual counseling

Partnering with parents, teachers, and administrators to ensure every child is growing socially, emotionally, physically, and academically

Providing career and college information

Helping with teacher/student relationships

Helping students cope with family issues or other personal issues

Listening to concerns about friend relationships

Providing referrals to people and places in our community that can provide help if necessary

Anonymous Alerts®

You can use the Anonymous Alerts® webform or mobile app to quickly, easily and anonymously report bullying, cyberbullying and other sensitive topics to school officials.

Anonymous Alerts® is monitored by GISD Security 24-hours daily and should only be used for serious and urgent matters. In the event of an emergency or life-threatening event, always call 911.
