Follow Pearson on X (formerly known as Twitter)
Looking for the latest information about Pearson Elementary? Want quick, timely updates sent straight to your computer or cell phone? We can provide all of that! Pearson now uses X (formerly known as Twitter) to share information with parents. X is a free social networking site that allows users to send updates to multiple followers. GISD launched a district account in 2011.
Pearson has launched its own X account to share our campus news. If you are already an X user, follow GISD at @gisdnews, Pearson at @Pearson_Ponies, and Pearson Specials at @NPSpecialsCrew to start receiving updates.
To create an X account, log on to X and follow the instructions to sign up for an X account. Once you’re an X user, search for gisdnews, Pearson_Ponies and NPSpecialsCrew to then click the “Follow” button. If you don’t want an X account, don’t worry. There are two ways to stay “in the know.”
Receive text messages in lieu of signing up for an X account. Text “Follow @gisdnews” and “Follow Pearson_Ponies” to 40404. X updates will be sent as messages to your smart phone (standard messaging rates apply). You can turn off the updates at any time by texting “Stop @gisdnews” and “Stop Pearson_Ponies” to 40404.
Using technology to connect
Integrating technology in our classrooms is a major focus at Pearson. We are fortunate to have a variety of tools to work with - updated computers, webcams, tons of software, and an iPad or Chromebook cart for every grade level! If you don't know what some of these are, ask your student to explain how they are used in class! Kids can create real world products and have fun with up-to-date technology, and they love it!
Cyber safety…search with KidRex
KidRex is a fun and safe search site for kids! KidRex searches emphasize kid-related webpages from across the entire web. They are powered by Google Custom Search™ and use Google SafeSearch™ technology to screen for sites containing inappropriate content. It then deletes them from your child’s search results. Google's filter uses advanced technology to check keywords, phrases, and URLs. No filter is 100 percent accurate, but SafeSearch™ should eliminate most inappropriate material.
You can set it as your home page so kids search through it rather than the world wide web.
Check out KidRex to help with cyber safety in your home.
We love to have parents volunteer at our school. Please check out the PTA page and the Volunteer page to get involved.
Dudes on Duty
Dudes on Duty is a school-based male involvement program that works to support safety and play at recess. Dudes on Duty are fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures. These men serve as positive role models, encourage and inspire students, and increase school safety.
Volunteer times and hours are during recess for our students. As a volunteer, your job is to model and encourage students to play safely with others and have fun. Once recess is done, we would like for you to help us calm students and get them ready to return to class.
Email Mrs. Strange with the date and time you would like to volunteer.
School supplies
Visit the school supplies page to find grade level supply lists for this school year.
Daycare list
For your convenience, we are providing a list of daycares and shuttles that pick up/drop off at Pearson. We do not endorse or recommend any of these businesses.
