Day care list
For your convenience, we are providing a list in the office of day cares and shuttles that pick up/drop off at Pearson. We do not endorse or recommend any of these businesses.
Watch D.O.G.S. is a one-of-a-kind, school-based father involvement program that works to support education and safety. Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer at least one day a year. A variety of school activities are assigned by the school principal or other administrator. These men serve as positive role models, encourage and inspire students, and even increase school safety.
To learn more, please visit the Watch D.O.G.S. website.
Sign up information will be found here for the 2019-2020 school year. Check back when school starts in the fall for information. Geoffrey Jenkins, a 5th Grade Teacher and Watch D.O.G.S. School Liason, will continue to provide a detailed schedule and information about the day.
Follow Pearson on Twitter
Looking for the latest information about Pearson Elementary? Want quick, timely updates sent straight to your computer or cell phone? We can provide all of that! Pearson now uses Twitter to share information with parents. Twitter is a free social networking site that allows users to send updates, or “tweets,” to multiple followers. GISD launched a district account in 2011.
Pearson has launched its own Twitter account to share our campus news. If you are already a Twitter user, follow GISD at @gisdnews and Pearson at @Pearson_Ponies to start receiving updates. If you don’t have a Twitter account, or don’t want one, don’t worry. There are two ways to stay “in the know.”
Log on to Twitter and follow the instructions to sign up for a Twitter account. Once you’re a Twitter user, search for gisdnews and Pearson_Ponies to then click the “Follow” button.
Receive text messages in lieu of signing up for a Twitter account. Text “Follow @gisdnews” and “Follow Pearson_Ponies” to 40404. Tweets will be sent as messages to your smart phone (standard messaging rates apply). You can turn off the updates at any time by texting “Stop @gisdnews” and “Stop Pearson_Ponies” to 40404.
We are excited about using Twitter to communicate in a new and more immediate way with our parents! Let us know if we can help you get your account set up.
Using technology to connect
Integrating technology in our classrooms is a major focus at Pearson. We are fortunate to have a variety of tools to work with - updated computers, webcams, tons of software, and an iPad cart for every grade level! If you don't know what some of these are, ask your student to explain how they are used in class! Kids can create real world products and have fun with up-to-date technology, and they love it!
Cyber safety…search with KidRex
KidRex is a fun and safe search site for kids! KidRex searches emphasize kid-related webpages from across the entire web. They are powered by Google Custom Search™ and use Google SafeSearch™ technology to screen for sites containing inappropriate content. It then deletes them from your child’s search results. Google's filter uses advanced technology to check keywords, phrases, and URLs. No filter is 100 percent accurate, but SafeSearch™ should eliminate most inappropriate material.
You can set it as your home page so kids search through it rather than the world wide web.
Check out KidRex to help with cyber safety in your home.
