New ECHS Transportation changes for the Magnet Class of 2029
Starting with Class of 2029 (current 8th graders), ECHS students will only get transportation to their zoned campus. Zoned students will be prioritized in the lottery. Students outside the RHS zone can apply and get placed after zoned students. They will have to provide their own transportation to RHS.
There is no change to zoning/transportation for Collegiate, P-TECH or traditional magnets. This only affects ECHS class of 2029. Previous ECHS and P-TECH classes are excluded from this new rule.

How to Apply to the Rowlett HS Magnet Programs?
Follow the steps to use the new AVELA APPLICATION SYSTEM to apply for magnet programs:
You will want to rank your school choices in the new Avela application system by preference, paying special attention to the Magnet/Non-Magnet indicator in the school title.
- The lottery system tries to match students with their choices in the order in which they’re listed, 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc., all the way through 6.
- After making a match, the program will add the student’s name to the waitlist of those schools that were ranked above the matched school.
- All schools ranked below the matched school are removed because they are less preferred than the matched school.
- If a magnet program finds a student not eligible, they will not be placed on the waitlist for that school option regardless of how the student ranked the school.
NEW!!! Single Best Offer Results-
- Students will be given one school placement offer.
- There is no need to accept/decline a seat placement.
- Students will remain on the waitlist for any schools that were higher ranked choices.
- Single Best Offer Results Posted in Avela: March 7th
If you are not currently a Garland ISD student, you must enroll and will fill out your Choice of School form in Skyward enrollment.
