Parent workshops
Our May video, How to Combat the Summer Slide, is dropping just in time for school to let out and summer reading to begin! The goal of this vignette is to assist parents in understanding the learning loss that naturally occurs with the start of summer vacation and some easy strategies they can utilize to help limit that "slide".
GISD offers workshops throughout the year on effective parenting strategies, ideas on how to get more involved, and information to help your child be successful in school and in life. Past workshops have included topics such as:
- bullying
- guide to STAAR
- parent involvement
- motivating children
- cybersafety
- teen dating violence
- substance abuse
- anger management
Parent involvement
Students with involved parents, no matter what their income or background, are more likely to:
- earn high grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs
- pass their classes, earn credits, and be promoted
- attend school regularly
- graduate and go on to postsecondary education
Make sure you know all of our school policies and procedures.
