Students will access their courses through Canvas. This is accessed by going to the "student apps" button in the top left corner of a district provided chromebook, or on a personal device by going to their "ready hub" then selecting Canvas at the bottom. See the following clicksheet for a step by step guide to access Canvas courses to assist your student.
Parents can choose to participate by observing their student through their own Canvas account. Parents will need a code to pair with their student. For step by step directions please see the generate parent access code guide.
Do you need to enroll your child, request a transfer, withdraw or request a transcript? It's easy to start common processes at home. Visit the Online Student Services page to get started.
If you have additional questions, please contact the campus data clerk:

Masks must be worn at all times and must be pulled up over the nose. This includes when students are outside of the building and still on campus.
Bandanas and other coverings that do not fit snugly against the face, gaiters that are made of thin polyester/fleece material, and masks with vents are not allowed in learning environments or hallways because they do not effectively prevent the spread of respiratory droplets into the air.
Face masks and face shields will be taken home daily. We need parent support in the daily washing and disinfecting of face coverings and face shields.
Students who refuse to comply with protociols could face removal from face-to-face learning and be required to attend school remotely.
The building will open at 8:10. Students dropped off early will not be allowed to enter and will not be monitored.
We will have four entrances during arrival. They are listed below and will be marked outside for students.
- Entrance 1 - Bus Riders
- Entrance 2 - Walkers
- Entrance 3 - 8th Grade Car Riders
- Entrance 4 - 6th & 7th Grade Car Riders
As students arrive on campus, masks should be secured and students should remain socially distanced.
Parents who are driving their students to school are encouraged to wait until their students have been cleared by the health pre-screeners before leaving.
Each student will be screened before entering the building. If a student does not clear the health pre-screening for entry, the student will either go back to the parent’s vehicle or will be escorted to the isolation room pending parent pick-up. Students must be picked up within 30 minutes.
Signage and floor markings will be present to assist students with social distancing in common areas and hallways.
Students will be instructed to stay to their far right when walking in the building and in the main halls.
Upon entry, students who choose to eat breakfast at school will report to the cafeteria. All others will report to their first class of the day (1st/5th) depending upon whether it is an A-day or a B-day.
Students who bring breakfast into the building should report immediately to the cafeteria to eat. No students should take food to the classrooms.
Duty staff will maintain a line of sight in hallways to ensure social distancing.
*** Our 8th period athletes will enter the building through the main gym entrance and follow the health pre-screening guidelines outlined above.
Dismissal will be staggered. Staggering the groups of walkers, car riders, and bus riders will reduce the risk of potential crowding outside of the building at dismissal time.
Students who walk home will be called first and are expected to leave campus immediately.
Students who are car riders will be released next and are expected to be picked up promptly. Car riders must be off campus by 4:25.
Bus students will be called as each bus arrives and will report directly to their buses.
Band students will retrieve instruments from the band hall when their dismissal group is called.
Sanitizer stations will be available as students exit their classrooms, and students will be encouraged to sanitize hands prior to exit.
Parents picking up students during the day must call ahead so students can be sent or accompanied to parent vehicles upon arrival.
Transportation is implementing COVID-19 procedures for student and driver safety, including mask wearing, no person-to-person contact, assigned seats, and distancing where possible.
Bus transportation information can be found via Skyward Family Access in the Portfolio tab. This will include students’ bus number, pick-up location and time. The GISD transportation will not be sending letters through the U.S. postal service.
For questions regarding bus transportation information, please contact the GISD transportation department at (972)494-8530.
Student Nutrition Services is excited to provide weekly curbside meal pick-up for remote learners. To receive meals parents/guardians will need to complete an order form every two weeks for each Garland ISD student who would like meal service. Parents/guardians who complete the form will receive breakfast and lunch for a two-week period.
See the curbside meals page for more information.
The 2020-21 calendar was revised by the Board of Trustees on June 23. School hours have changed to allow for 10 additional minutes of instructional time.
The new calendar features intersession weeks, which consist of special days where students have the opportunity to participate in remediation, acceleration or enrichment activities, similar to summer school offerings in previous years.
