What can my counselor do for me?

Counselors will help you by:

providing study skills and academic information
providing career and college information
helping in teacher/student relationships
helping cope with family issues
listening to concerns about friends, etc.
giving you information about life and decision-making skills
referring you to people or places outside of school for help if necessary
being your advocate – counselors are here for you!

Counselors for each campus are certified by the state of Texas in School Counseling, have a Master’s Degree, and previous teaching experience. Each elementary school has a guidance counselor to help ensure that adequate support for helping students to succeed and meet their goals is available.

Anti-Bullying Week

Bully Prevention Week is a week set aside for teachers and parents to discuss bullying with their students. It’s an opportunity to think about ways adults can ensure schools are as safe as possible for children. Mrs. Allen, the school counselor, will be teaching lessons on preventing and dealing with bullying cases if they occur.

Red Ribbon Week

Sewell Elementary is excited to participate with the 2024 Red Ribbon Campaign. This year’s theme is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free!

National Red Ribbon week will be filled with many different lessons designed to engage and educate our students while encouraging their participation in drug prevention activities. Our school counselor, Mrs. Allen, will be visiting all of our Sewell Seahawks with important lessons about drug prevention.

This creative theme was submitted by Cheryl Holsapfel, Digital Art Teacher, and Devanash Aggarwal from Solon Middle School. It serves as a powerful reminder that ordinary Americans nationwide contribute significantly to their communities every day by embracing a drug-free lifestyle.

Bullying

No student should be subjected to bullying or harassment that interferes with their ability to learn or their safety.

Anonymous Alerts®

You can use the Anonymous Alerts® webform or mobile app to quickly, easily and anonymously report bullying, cyberbullying and other sensitive topics to school officials.

Anonymous Alerts® is monitored by GISD Security 24-hours daily and should only be used for serious and urgent matters. In the event of an emergency or life-threatening event, always call 911.
