South Garland High School has a wide variety of activities for students to get involved in. Listed below are the classes, clubs, and organizations you can become a part of. We hope that all of our students will find a group or organization that best fits their interests.
SGHS cheerleaders provide spirit and support at athletic and school events throughout the year. We have two cheerleading squads. There is a Varsity cheer squad, which is made up of both juniors and seniors, a Junior Varsity cheer squad made up of sophomores and freshman.
The award-winning Royal Legacy is the varsity drill team at South Garland High School. Royal Legacy serves as a performance group that promotes spirit and sportsmanship. Royal Legacy builds character, teamwork, and discipline.
Try-outs are required for students to be members of this organization. Royal Legacy is only open to 10th-12th grade students. Tryouts are held in the spring to choose members for the line for the succeeding school year.
Sapphires is the JV drill team at South Garland. The Sapphires serve as a performance group that promotes spirit and sportsmanship. Sapphires does not require auditions and is open to all grades.
Stepping or step dancing is an energetic form of percussive dance. Participants use their entire body as an instrument to produce rhythm and sounds through a combination of footsteps, hand claps, and spoken word.
The Step Team promotes school spirit and represents South through teamwork, discipline, and integrity.
HOSA is a national student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage all health occupations instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.
HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in HSE programs. HOSA is 100% health care!
HOSA's mission is especially critical when considering the acute shortage of qualified workers for the health care industry.

The mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science technology education students, therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health care community.
World Dance Company was established 2017 and is a dance team where you will learn diverse dance styles such as Mexican Folklorico, Latin Dances (Salsa, Bachata, Merengue), African Dance, Bollywood, Tango, Country Western, Mexican Cumbia, Huapango, and many other cultural and social dance styles. WDC performs at SGHS pep-rallies and campus special events, Labor Day Parade, City of Garland Día de los Muertos, SGHS Winter Dance Concert, GISD Fiesta de Navidad Showcase, MLK Parade, SGHS Dance Festival, GISD Celebration of Cultures Show, and various other community events! WDC prides the most about their bond and love for all cultures! If you are selected as a team member, you will quickly learn that you have gained a second family.
Students must audition to join the company. Eligible candidates must be 8th-11th grade students who have selected SGHS as their school of choice for the upcoming school year. All candidates must submit online applications to qualify for auditions mid-May. Once selected, students will be enrolled in the company class for the upcoming school year.
