Dress Code

• Garments must allow for participation in all regular school activities while maintaining dignity and modesty.

• Apparel that advertises or depicts alcohol, drugs, nudity, tobacco products, any other substance prohibited under FNCF (Legal), violent or criminal themes, gang membership, obscene language and/or obscene graphics, will not be permitted. Any disruptive or distractive mode of clothing or appearance that adversely impacts the educational process is not acceptable. Extremes in modes of dress, such as see through clothing, exposed midriffs, or clothing normally considered as undergarments are not acceptable.

• All articles of clothing must be worn as they are designed to be worn.

• Undergarments should not be visible.

• Shorts of modest length, loose fitting, and hemmed may be worn by students.

• Dresses and skirts should be of modest length and fit.

• Extremely sloppy, badly torn, or inappropriately torn/slit/ripped clothing is prohibited.

• Shoes must be worn. Taps, metal plates, cleats, or wheels on shoes will not be permitted. No Crocs or slides please.

• Students may not wear house shoes, pajamas tops or bottoms, boxers, or other sleepwear as outerwear.

• Hair, including facial hair, must be clean, groomed, and by the nature of the style does not intend to create a distraction.

• Hair color that is disruptive or distracting to the school environment is prohibited. Hair must either be a natural color or naturally tinted or colored in a blended and balanced manner.

• Hair must be kept out of the eyes and must not be a distraction.

• Students may not wear hair curlers, rollers, hair picks, combs, or brushes in their hair.

• Hats, caps, bandanas, sweat bands, hoods, visors, or other nonreligious head coverings should not be worn in the school building.

• Earrings are limited to the ears for all students. Earrings include clip earrings, pierced earrings or studs, or any item used as a post in a pierced ear.

Arrival

• Doors open at 7:30 a.m., and students may be dropped off at 7:30 a.m. at the front of the building. Supervision is not provided before 7:30 a.m.
• Car riders, daycare and walkers enter through the front door.
• ALE bus students are dropped off by the gym.
• Breakfast in the classroom begins at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 8:10 a.m.
• School begins promptly at 8:10 a.m. each day. All students must be in class and ready to learn by that time.
• Do not get out of your car to walk your child to the front door. If you want to walk them to the front door, you will need to park your car.
• If your student arrives after 8:10 a.m., your student is considered late and you will need to accompany the student to the office.

Dismissal

Please make sure you have communicated to your child's teacher how your student will get home each day. If your child's dismissal changes from car rider, walker, bus, or daycare, please call the office before 3:00 p.m. or put the change in writing to the teacher before 3:00 p.m.

If you are unable to pick up your child at 3:30 p.m. please make other arrangements. Our front office can give you a list of daycares that you pick up at our school. The key to a successful dismissal is patience and courtesy - be the person you want your child to be. We appreciate your patience!

Car riders

• Car Tags MUST be presented at dismissal to pick up your child. Please place the car tag in the right side windshield of your car. DO NOT REMOVE the card until your child is inside the car.
• If you do not have your car tag, you will be asked to park and present an official government photo identification in the front office. A child will not be released to you without proper identification.
• If you need to send someone different to pick up your child, please call the office before 3:00 p.m. to let us know so we can communicate it to your child. Please tell the person picking up your child that he or she must present an official government photo identification at the reunification table on the front porch. NO Exceptions! Safety is our priority.
• If a parent or guardian cannot pick up the child the person must be listed on the Emergency Contact list in Skyward or Shorehaven must have written permission to release the child to that person. 

Walkers

If you child is a walker, please make sure you fill out an "Independent Walker Permission Slip". If a permission slip is not completed, then the student will not be released as a walker. A new permission slip is required each school year.

Late pick up

Students must go to the foyer and wait for their ride. Students must be picked up promptly at dismissal. Please call the office if you will pick up your student later than 3:30 p.m. All students MUST be picked up before 3:50 p.m. If your student is not picked up by 4:20 p.m. Garland Police Department will be called.

Attendance

Tardies

Students are tardy after 8:10 a.m.  Students who arrive after the tardy bell has rung are considered late and a parent/or guardian will need to accompany the student to the office.

Absences

Students who are not physically in the classroom at 10 a.m. must be marked absent. A note signed by a parent or doctor's office explaining the reason for an absence is required within three days after a student returns to school or the absence is unexcused. The note should be given to your child's teacher. You may also submit absence notes through Skyward. The school monitors students with excessive absences and partial absences.
