What is PTA?

“P” is for our Parents, grandParents, and the People in our community who support the students at Shorehaven. “T” is for our Teachers and staff who work at Shorehaven. “A” is for Association and All that we can accomplish together for the education and well-being of our Shorehaven Elementary students. Everyone of us has something of value to bring to Shorehaven Elementary that can improve the overall educational experience for all students.

Goals for PTA

Community Building

The PTA helps create opportunities for families to connect, build friendships, and feel part of the Shorehaven community.

Connect with other parents and families
Create lifelong friendships for you and your students
Enjoy fun, family-centered social events such as Ice-pops in the Park, Movie Night, Specials Nights, and Concerts
Partner with local businesses to bring new opportunities and resources into our school

Volunteering & Involvement

Your time and talents make a direct impact on our school, whether you can give an hour a year or an hour a week.

Read in classrooms, assist in the library, cafeteria, or school clubs
Serve as a Room Rep and be a positive role model for students
Complete the Volunteer Application Process to get started
Show your child the importance of service by being actively involved

Fundraising & Support

PTA fundraising provides the “extras” that make Shorehaven special, funding resources and experiences that go beyond the regular school budget.

Membership and fundraising efforts provide essential funding for programs and supplies
Support school programs, classroom resources, and educational tools
Examples include WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students), new classroom desks, and outdoor learning tables

Enriched learning experiences

Through special events and programs, the PTA brings unique learning opportunities that spark curiosity and excitement in students.

Bring in special guests and assemblies such as Dinosaur George and Chris in the Classroom
Host engaging family events like Science Night and Literacy Night
Provide extracurricular opportunities and innovative resources
Expand indoor and outdoor learning spaces

Communication & Engagement

Teacher & Staff Appreciation

We show our teachers and staff how valued they are by recognizing their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Organize snacks, meals, and thoughtful tokens of gratitude
Celebrate teachers during conferences, special events, and throughout the year

👉 Why it matters: Supporting our teachers shows them they are appreciated, which helps create a positive and motivated school environment for students.

How the PTA supports our students

Your support through membership and fundraising helps provide resources, activities, and experiences for our students. Here are some of the ways PTA funds are raised and used:

Membership – Every membership directly supports Shorehaven students.
Spirit Wear – T-shirts for students and adults (more items coming soon!).
Spirit Nights at Local Restaurants – Enjoy a meal out while giving back. Be sure to ask if your restaurant is supporting Shorehaven Elementary and watch for future dates.
Yearbook – Capturing memories of the school year for every student.
Snack Cart – A fun way for students to enjoy treats while raising funds for our school.

Annual Collectible Yearbook

Photo Submissions: PTA members will receive a special link to their child’s classroom folder, where they can upload pictures of their child’s participation in school activities and events.

National PTA

The National PTA is the oldest and largest volunteer organization in the United States working exclusively on behalf of children and youth. There are nearly 6.5 million members working in 26,000 local units through schools and communities in all 50 states. It was founded on February 17, 1897 as the National Congress of Mothers. It has grown to be an effective advocacy organization promoting the education, health and safety of children and families.

National PTA stated objectives

Promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, and place of worship
Raise the standards of home life
Secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
Bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
Develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education
