Dr. Ashley Wong Bio:

It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as the principal of Sachse High School. I am excited to join the Mustang community and look forward to partnering with our students, families, staff, and community as we continue the school's strong tradition of excellence.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine, a Master of Education from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Southwestern College in Kansas.

My career in education spans more than 22 years. I began my journey as a high school chemistry teacher in California before relocating to Texas, where I continued teaching chemistry in Garland ISD. Since then, I have served as an instructional coach, spent eight years as a high school assistant principal, and most recently had the privilege of serving as principal of Hudson Middle School for four years. The majority of my career has been dedicated to serving the students, families, and staff of Garland ISD.

I believe that every student has the ability to thrive when provided with the right support, meaningful relationships, and high expectations. As principal, I am committed to fostering a culture where every Mustang feels valued, challenged, and empowered to reach their full potential. Together, we will continue to prepare students for success beyond graduation by ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and character needed to excel in college, careers, military service, and other post-secondary opportunities.

I look forward to working alongside our outstanding staff, families, and community to ensure every Mustang thrives academically, socially, and emotionally. Together, we will continue creating opportunities that inspire lifelong learning, leadership, and success.

Outside of school, I enjoy reading, taking nature walks, traveling, and spending time with my husband and our two children.

Kegan Johnson Bio:

Hey, Mustangs! My name is Kegan Johnson, and I am excited to begin my fifth year as an Assistant Principal at Sachse High School. I bring 15 years of experience in public education, having served as a social studies teacher and a 1:1 instructional coach before moving into campus administration.

I earned my Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies and my Master's degree in Educational Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University. It is a privilege to serve the Sachse community, and I am passionate about supporting students as they grow into confident leaders and prepare for success after graduation.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my wife and young daughter, exploring the outdoors, and making the most of family adventures.

Laketa Thomas Bio:

Hello, Mustang family! My name is Mrs. Laketa Thomas, and I am honored to serve as an Assistant Principal at Sachse High School. After many years in Garland ISD, including previous years serving in the Sachse community, I am excited to return to the high school level and continue supporting students, staff, and families in this next chapter.

This transition is especially meaningful because I am moving across the street from the middle school, where I had the privilege of serving many of the students and families who are now part of this campus. I look forward to seeing familiar faces, reconnecting with former students, and continuing to support them as they grow, lead, and prepare for life beyond high school.

My background includes experience as a classroom teacher, volleyball coach, department leader, instructional coach, and campus administrator. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both of which continue to shape how I support students, teachers, and school communities.

My leadership is rooted in clear expectations, meaningful relationships, consistency, accountability, and student growth. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and watching true crime, decorating, cheering on my favorite teams, enjoying a good cup of coffee, and being outside in the country whenever I can. I am grateful to join the Sachse family and look forward to a successful year together.

Adam Varrassi Bio:

Hello there Sachse family. I am proud to start my fourth year as an Assistant Principal at Sachse High School. I have over two and a half decades of experience in education including teaching science, coaching teachers, and serving as an instructional leader in both middle and high schools. I hold an undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas. My family is grounded in Garland ISD with myself, my wife, our daughter and our son attending GISD schools. I am a strong advocate for the importance of education and the development of critical thinking skills to support our students both inside and outside of school. When at home, I enjoy spending time with family, cooking, and playing games with family and friends.

Mary Shelton Bio:

I am excited to join the Sachse Mustang team this year as an Assistant Principal.  I look forward to working with teachers and students to continue the longstanding tradition of academic excellence that Sachse is known for.  

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Stephen F. Austin University, a Master’s of Education from Southern Methodist University and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M Commerce.  

I have spent more than 27 years in education.  I began teaching middle school in Carrollton Farmer’s Branch ISD before coming to Garland ISD and teaching high school English  at Naaman Forest High School.  I was an instructional Facilitator in Forney ISD for two years and then returned to Garland to serve as the Secondary ELAR Coordinator.  Most recently I served as the MTSS facilitator for South Garland High School prior to joining the Sachse team.  In every role I have taken joy in working with students, parents, teachers and instructional teams to ensure that every student has the best possible opportunity for success. 

At the core of my educational philosophy is the belief that every student is capable of academic success and deserves the strongest learning environment that we can provide.  I am dedicated to working with teachers and students to create positive learning environments that support the whole child and their well-being.  Working together we can create a pathway for students to prosper in their chosen field after graduation.  

Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and running.

LaTanya Martin Bio:

Hello, Sachse Mustangs! My name is LaTanya Martin, and I am honored and thrilled to begin my 27th year in education here as one of your Assistant Principals. Before becoming a campus administrator, I served students as a teacher, counselor, instructional coach, and coordinator. I did so to effectively serve students and families and maximize student achievement for diverse learners. I truly believe in equitable opportunities for all students, regardless of designations and labels.

I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling from Texas Southern University and my Bachelor’s in English with a concentration in Linguistics from the University of Houston. I am working towards my Doctorate in Educational Leadership from East Texas A&M University.

I am not only a Garland ISD employee but also a district parent and community member. I am a band mom, and I have a Garland ISD graduate who now attends East Texas A&M studying music, and a current Garland ISD junior who is passionate about all things percussion.

When I am not working, I am taxiing my son to his various band competitions, watching every sport imaginable (except curling), and starting various craft projects. They are slated for completion in the imaginary future.

I am super excited to be part of the Mustang family and to help continue building integrity and pride in every student I encounter.

Stephen Wood Bio:

I am excited to begin my 18 year in education and 8 years as an assistant principal. Throughout my career, I have believed that strong relationships are the foundation of a successful school. My goal is to create a positive, supportive environment where every student feels valued, every staff member feels appreciated, and every family feels welcomed.

I recently joined the Sachse High School family after serving in Dallas ISD, where I had the opportunity to support student achievement, campus operations, and instructional leadership. Working alongside dedicated teachers, students, and families has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career, and I am passionate about helping students grow academically, socially, and personally.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Education Leadership from Southern Methodist University. The experiences I’ve had throughout my career have shaped my belief that every student can succeed when they are supported, challenged, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

I am truly honored to be part of the Sachse High School community. I look forward to getting to know our students, staff, and families, celebrating successes together, and working as a team to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive. I can’t wait to be part of all that makes Sachse High School such a special place.

Sharon Hogue Bio:

Welcome, Mustangs!

This is my 12th year at Sachse High School, where I have the privilege of working with extraordinary students, families, and faculty/staff. I am also beginning my 27th year in public education, all within the Garland Independent School District. Time flies!

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from The University of Texas at Dallas and my Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of North Texas, where I also completed doctoral coursework. My career began at Naaman Forest High School, where I taught chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Scientific Research and Design, before serving as a science facilitator, instructional coach, and now as the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Facilitator. In this role, I work alongside students, teachers, and families to help identify supports and resources that allow students to thrive academically. I love educating students so much that I have also taught chemistry courses part time at Dallas College for the past 23 years.

On a personal note, I am a multi-generational Texan, y’all.  I am also the proud momma of an extraordinary 20-year-old, a 2024 Sachse High School graduate who is double majoring in electrical/computer engineering and mathematics at Southern Methodist University (Mustangs really are a theme!).

Outside of school, I enjoy volunteering, playing trivia, reading whenever I can, spending time with my fur and fin babies, and attending art exhibits and live music events. I look forward to another fantastic year partnering with our Mustang families!
