All about specials

In addition to the regular, academic classes, Shugart students attend other specialty classes. Those classes include art, music, computer, library and physical education. Our dedicated team of specials' teachers work hard to make sure the students reach their physical fitness and creative goals.

The specials teachers include the following:

Coach McClure invited Kids Heart Challenge to give a presentation to students. Two fifth graders helped demonstrate CPR.

SAIL (Sheltered Approach for Improved Literacy)

It's Shugart's third year of implementing this program for Pre-K through 2nd and 3rd ELAR.

The SAIL team came to support during Literacy night! They gave PreK through third grade students free books according to their grade level!

Shugart is partnered with Lakeview Centennial High School's FTI (Future Teacher Intern) program. High school students join teacher's classrooms to help certain days in the morning.

The role of the mentor teacher (Shugart teacher) is to be an advisor for the student intern. The mentor teacher will help to encourage intern students to enter the field of education and help them to obtain hands on experience working with student in the role of a teacher. Mentor teachers are encouraged to give the intern student duties and responsibilities in their classrooms where they feel comfortable. Remember you are helping assist the intern on their journey to becoming a teacher and should have activities for them to do that reflect our profession.

This FTI student, Ms. Patterson, went to Shugart. She helped in fifth grade with Ms. Hurns and in kindergarten with Ms. Allen.

This FTI student, Ms. Brown, helped in Pre-K with Mrs. Herman.
