Addressing social emotional needs in the ALE class

Our teacher, Mr. Timothy Garbett, has found an important method for addressing the social emotional needs of his students. Beginning next week, he will be using social stories. The purpose of these stories is to help students build strategies for overcoming frustrations in a pictorial manner. Some examples includes stories like When I'm Frustrated, Being Jealous or Loud Noises. Stories like Loud Noises are especially helpful for students who are sensitive to loud noises. Not only will the students receive help with frustration; these stories also help them review skills like decoding, understanding main idea and supporting details and other important skills.

Social stories are just good teaching. They are great for students in ALE classes and general classes, as well.
