All about specials

Introducing our guest illustrator

In addition to the regular, academic classes, Shugart students attend other specialty classes. Those classes include art, music, computer, library  and physical education. Our dedicated team of specials' teachers work hard to make sure the students reach their physical fitness and creative goals. The specials teachers include the following: Monica Black, Shawn McClure, Jarvin Lockett, Victoria Lawson, Alexander Opland, and Marcus Wood. They keep busy by supporting class room teachers. In this photo, a fifth grade student is introducing the illustrator who presented to fifth graders.

Physical education

Shawn McClure and Jarvin Lockett make sure our students stay healthy and have fun, too.  Physical education is important. Not only will students get to revitalize by moving around, they also get opportunities to get outside for fresh air and fun activities. Students will  take all of the skills they learn in PE and put them to good use.

Art all around us

Creating bookmarks in art

Art is all around us - incorporated in things we see and do every day. Our students are being challenged to find how art is used outside of school. Students do not have to go to art shows or museums to see great examples. Students can see art everywhere like in grocery stores, at movies theaters, and even at restaurants. We want students to be aware of these examples and to keep track of them. From the designs on their clothes to the billboards they see, art is everywhere. Also, we encourage them to be creators of the art. In this photo, first grade students are making their own bookmarks.
