The department of Family and Community Engagement has partnered with Region 10 to host parent workshops throughout the year with effective parenting strategies, ideas on how to get more involved and information to help your child be successful in school and in life.

Past workshops have included topics such as:

• bullying
• guide to STAAR
• parent involvement
• motivating children
• cybersafety
• teen dating violence
• substance abuse
• anger management

We are so excited to be able to offer our students opportunities to learn outside of the classroom for kindergarten through fifth grade. Every year, second grade completes water safety courses at the Larry H. Glick Natatorium. Each year, students have fine arts field trips, such as going to the Dallas Museum and the Dallas symphony. For the school year 2025-2026, Pre-K will not go on field trips outside of school due to the school buses not guaranteed to have seatbelts and weight/size. Pre-K will have visitors come to Shugart based on what they are learning about.

Check with your child's teacher about future field trip opportunities. If you would like to chaperone, please go to the volunteer page to find out how.

We love when Shugart parents visit or volunteer in our school. We have parents who volunteer weekly at the Dojo store. Fun fact: This is Mrs. Herman (pre-k teacher)'s Dad! In this picture, these two students spent their Dojo points to shop at the Dojo store. We appreciate any donations to help keep our Dojo store running!
