School Spirit & History
Southgate Elementary opened its doors in 1963. Since then, students have been loved and taught by caring teachers and staff members. The first principal at Southgate was Billy Joe Johnson who served from 1963 to 1975. His tenure paved the way for what makes our school great! The school was named for the surrounding neighborhood subdivision. In 1992 and 2007, classroom additions allowed for a maximum of six units per grade level. In 2024, Southgate Elementary became Southgate STEM Elementary and earned the great accomplishment of becoming a Nationally Certified STEM Campus.
