Get to know your counselor

Your counselor is someone who listens no matter what you say, someone you can talk to when you need to share something special. Your counselor can help you to handle your emotions and help you find solutions. You will want to get to know your counselor because she can assist you with your academic success, developing an understanding of career opportunities, and developing social-emotional skills as you progress through elementary school. Make an appointment to see your counselor or just walk-in to her office in room 1.

What can my counselor do for me?

Counselors will help you:

  • apply academic achievement strategies
  • manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills
  • plan for postsecondary options (higher education, military, work force)
  • provide individual student academic planning and goal setting
  • deliver school counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards
  • provide short-term counseling to students
  • make referrals for long-term counseling support
  • collaborate with families/teachers/ administrators/ community for student success
  • advocate for students at individual education plan

Counselors for each campus are certified by the state of Texas in School Counseling, have a Master’s Degree, and previous teaching experience. Each elementary school has a school counselor to help ensure that students have the adequate support to succeed in the classroom and meet their goals.
