A message from our librarian
Hello Eagle readers! This is my 12th year in Garland ISD and my 3rd year as an Eagle. My goal is to help students develop a lifelong love for reading. I am a huge advocate for technology, especially coding/computer programming. I hope to share my passion with all of the children.
I strongly believe that it is very important for your child/children to read every night. As they come to the library each week and start bringing books home, please listen to them read or read to and with them. Also, please help your child remember to bring back their books each week so they can bring new ones home! I hope you and your child enjoy our library books.
Love,
Mrs. Robinett
Free books for first graders:
Retired teachers from Garland ISD picked our school for first graders to receive free books to keep. Each student was so happy to get to pick their own book that they can hold on to forever. The library was happy to host the retired teachers for the event and help get free books into the students hands. It brought many smiles to many faces that day!
Reading incentive programs:
The library offers many different reading incentive programs to help encourage students to read.
Book it
Pizza Hut's reading program. Students earn free pizzas throughout the year for meeting reading goals.
Braum's Book Buddy
Students earn free ice cream from Braums for reading. Braums coupons must be filled out before entering the resteraunt and coupons for free ice cream may not be submitted in the drive-thru
MyON challenges
Monthly MyON Challenges are a big part of our library program. Individual students, as well as our whole school can win prizes, banners, trophies, etc. for winning a challenge.
Panda Express read with me
Students earn a free Panda Express cub meal after reading five books at home. They will log these books on their Panda Express book mark and then turn in to the library for their free coupon card.
Texas Bluebonnet Award
Only students in grades 3-5 participate in this reading program sponsored by the TLA. Students must read at least 5 books from a selected group of 20 in order to be eligible to vote at the end of January for their favorite. New titles for the current school year are now available.
Read Across America
Read Across America is sponsored by NEA in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We celebrate by having special dress up theme days, learning about different authors, and hosting a reading challenge.
