Texans welcome Mrs. Strickland

Mrs. Strickland is joining Toler Elementary School as principal following 11 years of service with the Mesquite Independent School District. Her career began there at Gentry Elementary, where she taught 6th grade for three years. She went on to teach 6th grade at Rugel Elementary for one year before being named as an assistant principal. She served as an assistant principal for seven years.

Mrs. Strickland grew up in St. Andrew, Jamaica. She received her undergraduate degree from Culver-Stockton College (Missouri) in Communications with a specialization in Journalism and Public Relations. She earned her master’s degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University - Commerce in 2010.

Mrs. Strickland views a collaborative school environment as the key to creating successful teachers and students. She believes partnerships with parents and community partners are essential to enriching the experience at Toler Elementary. Her vision is that students will be prepared to contribute to the society in which they will live, and be able to compete in a globalized world.

During her free time, Mrs. Strickland enjoys reading, working out, and spending time with family. She has been married to husband, Lavontase, for 14 years and they have 3 children - Bailey, Ava and Jameson.
