Academics
Literacy
Literacy is an important foundation at the Classical Center at Vial Elementary. Our staff strives to develop our literacy skills everyday. Students begin each morning reading as they wait for school to start after they enter the school building.
In addition, literacy is supported with several other campus and district initiatives:
- Our campus participates in the Braum's Book Buddy program.
- Students participate in our Renaissance MyOn program.
- Cybersafety week teaches students valuable information literacy skills.

MAP test
All GISD students take the MAP test three times during the school year. MAP stands for Measure of Academic Progress and assists staff understand a student's projected growth as compared to their actual growth. It is administered at the beginning of the year, in the middle of the year, and at the end of the year. MAP scores are determined by the level of difficulty of questions answered correctly not the number of questions answered correctly. If you have questions about your student's past MAP results, please contact your child's teacher.
