I have been teaching kindergarten for 4 years and this year I am beyond excited to teach second grade. These past years as a teacher have been an adventurous journey filled with joy and challenges. When I am not teaching I enjoy running, hiking, a great book and of course the company of my family and friends.
I have been teaching little humans (first graders) for three years now. It has been a wonderful adventure. I am recently married. I love to travel to new places and try new food. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, trying new recipes, and outdoor activities.
I grew up in Garland and graduated from S. Garland. I got my degree in education from University of N. Texas and began teaching immediately. I'm married to my husband Jimmy, and we have 3 boys (Tait, Jake, and Will). Some of my hobbies are to decorate my house/classroom and work in my yard. I love finding deals at stores like Ross and TJ Maxx! My favorite movies are Hope Floats, Return to Me, and Sound of Music. My favorite TV show is Price is Right. I'm also a Hallmark Channel fan!
Hi! I'm Mrs. Binon and I will be teaching you Reading, Writing, Grammar, and Spelling this year (also called ELAR). I have been at WGA for 4 years now and absolutely love it at our school. I have been teaching for 28 years. In my spare time, I love to run, read, hike, and spend time with my family. I'm happily married and have 2 beautiful daughters, Taylor and Faith. Taylor graduated from Texas Tech with her doctorate degree and my youngest Faith, is headed to Texas Tech this year to start her college career. Needless to say, we love our Red Raiders! I am super excited to meet my new students and to get the year started!
I am a proud product of GISD, graduating from Rowlett High School. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Texas A&M Commerce. I began my teaching career piloting a full inclusion program for Pre K and PPCD students. After three years of little kids, I made the jump to third grade and haven't looked back! After many wonderful years teaching third and being awarded Teacher of the Year at Shorehaven Elementary, I was ready for my next journey, fourth grade reading and writing. I LOVE being a writing teacher and finding the writer in all children. This lead me to WGA in 2019. I am married with two silly little girls, Willow and Piper. I spend all time outside of school with my family, cooking new recipes, or in my running shoes!
WELCOME ALL SNOW LEOPARDS! I'm Mr. Garza and thrilled to start my second year at WGA and 7th year of teaching in GISD. I am the youngest of 3, and an Uncle to seven nieces and nephews. I'm the first in my family to graduate high school and earned my degree at Texas A&M Commerce. I love Science, Social Studies and Math, which all include Reading. I enjoy collecting Funko POPs and have about 136 so far. I have high expectations of all my students and they teach to be a better teacher every day. My students and I make mistakes but we learn best when we make them.
My name is Kim Villarreal and I will be teaching 4th Grade Math. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Math and Physical Education with a Drivers Education endorsement from Texas A&M University in College Station, where I met my husband Aaron. We have three wonderful children, one of whom recently graduated from Arizona State University and twins that are currently students at Texas Tech University. My passions include teaching Math, traveling~ especially to beaches, and spending time with my family. This year will be my 30th year teaching Math at Walnut Glen Academy, so you can imagine that it has a very special place in my heart.
My name is Andrew Petras, and I have been a teacher since 2013. I began my career teaching for five years in the Austin, TX area as a bilingual teacher (Spanish and English). My work in Garland ISD began in spring 2019 when I was an intervention teacher at Heather Glen Elementary. In fall 2020 I had the privilege and honor of moving to Walnut Glen Academy, where I have been ever since. More about me: I was born in the Milwaukee area of Wisconsin, United States; other cities in which I have lived include Chicago, Minneapolis, and Austin. I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in bilingual elementary education (2013). In 2018, I received a master’s degree (also at UT Austin) in curriculum and instruction for bilingual/bicultural education. In summer 2019 I started my coursework for a second master’s degree in school counseling at the University of North Texas (UNT) and I expect to graduate in summer 2022. When I am not working, I spend time with my parents, younger sister, younger brother, wife Kristin, friends and relatives.
Hey there! My name is Mrs. Hudson and I will be teaching 5th Science. I am very excited to join Walnut Glen Academy for the upcoming year. My background is in healthcare where I worked in ICUs and ERs before I decided that I wanted to pursue my true passion... teaching science. I began teaching in 2013, and I would never go back. I love science. I mean I REALLY love science. I received Teacher of the Year award for the 2019-2020 school year at my previous campus and am excited to be working with the amazing students at Walnut Glen. I have three daughters and 2 dogs that keep my busy. When I am not busy I enjoy tie-dying and working in my garden tending to my numerous flowers, herbs, and veggies.
Hello Snow Leopards! I am Amy Clark and will be joining the 5th grade team as the Reading/Writing teacher. I am so excited to be back at Walnut Glen Academy of Excellence this year and teaching! Last year, I served the campus once a week as the ELAR IST (Instructional Support Teacher).
The 20-21 school year will start my 22nd year in education. This will start my 18th year in Garland ISD! During my educational career, I have served in many capacities. I have taught 1st, 2nd, & 5th grade; served as the district Dyslexia Evaluator, and was a Literacy Specialist and Instructional Support Teacher.
I love teaching and helping students reach their full potential! In my free time, I like read, 'attempt' to be crafty, and travel! I am married and have 2 children (a 5th grader and college freshman). Let's make 20-21 the best year yet!
I am an Ohio native who has lived in Texas for 10 years. My husband George and I have an adorable baby daughter named Claire. When I’m not teaching music, I enjoy spending time with friends, painting, traveling and cooking!
I LOVE my job! I have been a Walnut Glen "Snow Leopard" for 32 years and am now teaching the children of some of my former students. I am married to a wonderful man, a Texas A&M Aggie, and have two spoiled "fur-babies" at home. My favorite quote: "In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught." (Baba Dioum, 1968.)
I am a graduate of Texas Christian University with a B.A. in Art History and a minor in anthropology. I am also a graduate of the University of North Texas with an M.A. in Art Education. I grew up loving art, dance, and piano. and I now love making art with my students and my son.
I was actually born and raised in Garland. I went to school in GISD for all 12 years and am a PROUD Sachse High School alumni! I graduated from Texas A&M- Commerce in Fall if 2019 with a degree in music education. Music has been my passion forever! I have been in a choir since I was in 5th grade and have been a classically trained vocalist for 9 years. I’m a total theater nerd! Some of my favorite memories have been on stage singing operas and musicals! I am SO excited to begin my teaching career in my home district at Walnut Glen! :)
I was born and raised in Garland. I am proud to say I am a WGA and Garland High school alumnus. I met my husband in middle school at Austin Academy and now we have two beautiful baby girls, Sophia and Jazmine. I graduated from Tarleton State University with a BS in Kinesiology in 2012 and I have been teaching ever since. I am a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan but I love all sports. My favorite things to do outside of school are spend time with my family and travel to new places.
I am the Early Literacy Support Teacher. I was born in Lancaster, Texas and raised in Garland, Texas. I am a proud graduate of Lakeview Centennial High School, go Patriots! I received a BSIS from Stephen F. Austin State University and an MSIS from the University of North Texas. I enjoy reading, painting, traveling, and baking. I spent the first 8 years of my career in GISD as a kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grade teacher. I am so excited join the WGA Snow Leopard community and work with teachers to further support the amazing students and families here!
A fun fact about me is that I grew up in this school district. I am a proud graduate of Walnut Glen Academy, Austin Academy, and Garland High School! Go Owls! I received my Bachelor of Science from UT Austin and my Masters in Communication Disorders from UT Dallas. This summer I spent a lot of time gardening in the backyard, baking pastries, and learning new things!
